Surprise! This is not my 2025 recap. Decided last minute to split the story into a few bits because it was getting painfully long, and I don’t want to bore you. Plus, I want to write shorter stories (or at least try).

No FOMO

This year felt like I was missing out on movies, especially in the last months of 2025. I was so busy with other things, I just did not have the time (shocking). The cinema hasn’t seen my face, and that to me is odd to say the least. I usually go to the movie theatre at least two times a month. So, logically, I’m just going to write about what I’ve actually seen and what stood out to me the most.

Horror Movie Girly

Like in 2024, the horror movie genre outshone others, but maybe I’m biased because I’m such a horror movie girl. They just don’t do comedies like they used to in the 2000’s, politically incorrect, raunchy, and uncensored. For the sake of us all, I will only mention the main genres, not subgenres (it’s getting ridiculous at this point). So here goes my top five horror movies of 2025 (in no particular order):

1. Until Dawn (very suspenseful, and I really wanted to play the game afterwards, the VR one)
2. Sinners (beautifully shot, amazing storyline, wanted to know more about the Native Americans)
3. Weapons (intriguing, and very scary). Gladys was my Halloween costume.
4. Final Destination: Bloodlines (I was expecting more, but it was still good enough to make it my top five)
5. The Monkey (originality, dark humour, gore)

My devoted blog reader will be amazed that IKWYDLS didn’t make it on this list, but it didn’t stand a chance against the movies that did, nor did Nosferatu, The Ugly Stepsister, or The Conjuring: Last Rites. Are you a horror movie fan? I know the genre is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m curious to know what your favorite horror of 2025 was, and why.

Horror movies that I still want to watch (in the near future): Black Phone 2, Good Boy, Bring Her Back, and Together. I will write about them later, pinky promise.

Other Stuff I’ve Seen

Now, back to the other genres (action, adventure, comedy, and thriller). To do this part, I made a list of all the new movies that I’ve seen this year. You should do so too. You would be amazed at how much time we spend consuming instead of creating (totally attacking myself here). I’m joking, of course, but I was surprised to see how many movies I watched this year, and that is without counting all the rewatches. For next year, it would be wise to write down everything I’m rewatching so I can reflect on my life choices at the end of the year. 

So, the movies that were most memorable to me in 2025 were:

1. The Amateur (it felt like an adventure movie, and it was action-packed with a satisfying ending).
2. How to Train Your Dragon (adventurous and beautiful).
3. Karate Kid: Legends (felt like a warm bowl of soup in winter when you’re down with the flu, but in a good way, oh, and very nostalgic).
4. Novocaine (action-packed, suspenseful, loved the storyline).
5. M3GAN 2.0 (didn’t put this under horror, I considered it more of a sci-fi movie; it had a different feel from the first one, with more humor, which worked well, if you asked me).

Memorable mentions: Freakier Friday, F1, Companion (not a horror), and Happy Gilmore 2, and Thunderbolts*

Update: I saw Anaconda on January 3rd, and I take back what I said about comedies, because it was pretty funny.
